Gene P. Glab, 80, of 110 Devon Drive, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17th at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jay Ilten officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1640 Main St. and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

He was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Dubuque, son of Frank J. and Cornellia (Ball) Glab. He married Judith A. Tharp Cocayne Dec. 27, 1985 at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Gene graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and Iowa State Teachers College, presently the University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls, IA.

He was a teacher and coach at Monona, Iowa High School l953 – 1956. He then taught for 36 years at Dubuque Senior High School, retiring in 1992. He was involved with coaching track and cross-country 1957-1975. In 1962 he assisted in the formation of Tri-State Relays. He was regarded as one of the states top basketball officials and in 1991 he and Bernie O'Connor were named to the Iowa High School Officials Hall of Fame. In 1995 he was inducted into Dubuque Senior High School Hall of Fame.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church

Surviving are his wife, Judith ‘Judy' Glab, of Dubuque; four daughters, Jody Ann (Thomas) Slota, of Mt. Prospect, IL, Kimberly Welch, of Dubuque, Rebecca (Tom) Kaiser, of Cedar, MN, and Lisa Glab, of Cedar, MN; a son, Scott (Linda) Glab, of Ankeny, IA; two step-daughters, Laurie Ann (Whitney) Patterson, of Edmond, OK and Lisa Maria (Mitchell) Peterson, of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and a sister, Susan (Keith) Wiedenbacher, of Phoenix, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Joanne Robinson in 1984.
