He was born on March 7, 1928, in Springfield, to John Chester and Mary L. Hale Brackett. Wayne married Mary Margaret Stults on July 14, 1949, and she preceded him in death in 2009. His sisters, Betty Rowland and Opal Brackett, died within the last year. Pastor Brackett was ordained November 28, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Tuscola. He served the Lord in many Baptist churches including Ashland, Marissa, Kalamazoo, MI, Toulon, Atwood, and Waverly, over his lengthy vocation in the ministry, before retiring in 1998 at the age of 70. He was a member of the Cherry Hills Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen (Cherri) Brackett of Kewanee, Mark (Gayle) Brackett of Princeville, and grandchildren, Traci (Jerome) Toohill of Clinton, Ben Brackett of Kewanee, David Brackett of Denver, CO, Paul Brackett of Peoria, Elizabeth Brackett of Elkville and Jacob Brackett of Princeville; great grandchildren Aiden and Audrey Toohill of Clinton, brother-in-law Kenneth (Ruth) Stults and sister-in-law Gwendolyn Stults and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Services: His family will greet friends from 9, until the time of services at 10am, Wednesday, June 15, at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, 2125 Woodside Road, Springfield, IL 62711.
Burial will follow at West Cemetery, Thayer.
Memorials: Cherry Hills Baptist Church and the Waverly, Illinois EMS Rescue Squad.
