"James H. Adwell, of Co. I, enrolled [72nd IN] Mar. 6, 1865 n Lafayette by Capt. Parks as a Private; mustered in Mar. 14, 1865 in Lafayette by Capt. Parks at age 32. He was 5’ 5” tall, fair complexion, hazel eyes, and red hair. Born in Grayson, VA, employed as a farmer, married to Elzina Marquis. Mustered out at the end of the war Sep. 14, 1865 in Chattanooga, TN. Notes: A Private from 72nd IN Co. E before consolidating into 44th IN Jul. 1, 1865. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #569503 Oct. 14, 1889. Belonged to Brookston, White Co., IN, G. A. R. On 1870 and 1880 Tippecanoe Co., IN censuses. Died Jun. 4, 1890; buried in Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Tippecanoe Co., IN. Elzina filed Widow’s Pension Application to receive Widow’s Pension Certificate #373250 Aug. 23, 1890.
