Merrill Bickmore passed away peacefully on December 21, 2010. He was born on September 9, 1922 in Corrine, Utah to William McArthur and Ida Luella Bickmore. He was the youngest of 7 children and was raised in Downey, ID. Merrill entered the U.S. Marine Corps. on September 16, 1942. While serving in the Pacific, he was wounded on August 8, 1944. This is how he met and married the love of his life, his cute Navy nurse, Frances George from Heuvelton, NY. They were married for 63 years before his "Frannie Babe" passed away. He worked for the JC Penney Co. as a division manager. He changed careers and began working at Intercontinental Transport as executive vice president and later became president. Throughout his career he developed abilities and skills as a great "people person". He often spent time counseling with individuals, helping them to improve their work ethics and professional skills. Merrill was a very devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving as bishop of the Palos Verdes Ward, then as stake president of both Torrance and Palos Verdes stakes. Following his release, he was called to serve as stake patriarch. He was survived by his children, Victor Bickmore of Santa Barbara, CA; daughters, Terry Bickmore Parson (Mike) of Temple City, CA, Cindy Bickmore Grant Segawa (Chris) of Lomita, CA, Jenny Bickmore Webster (Charlie) of Torrance, CA, Melinda Bickmore Wing (Phil) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Benjamin Parson (Traci), Holley Grant Mullen (Sean), Kimberly Parson Houldridge (John), James Grant (Shannon), Christopher Parson (Sarah), Katherine Grant King (Justin), Matthew Parson (Amy), Merrill Grant, Blake Webster (Brittany), Tamela Parson Deim (Jordan), William Webster, Victor Webster, Michael Parson II, Grant Webster, Whitney Wing, Emma Webster, Kimball Wing, Steven Wing, Chloe Bickmore and Cooper Bickmore; with an additional 25 + great-grandchildren. Merrill was a wonderful example of a loving, devoted husband and father. Merrill's services will be on Saturday, January 8, 2011 with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the Palos Verdes Stake Center, 5845 Crestridge Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perpetual Education or the Missionary Fund through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
