G. FRANK ZIMMERMAN, 85, of South China, Maine, and formerly of Millville, died Monday at home.
Mr. Zimmerman was a high school teacher in Millville. He held the positions of teacher, vice principal, principal and assistant superintendent in the Cranford School System. He was a graduate of Bucknell College and Columbia University Teachers College, and a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Mr. Zimmerman was a former president of the New Jersey Schoolmasters Association, and served on the College Entrance Examination Board. He was a member of the South China Historical Society and Friends of Fort Western. He served as president of the South China Community Church, and was a treasurer of the South China Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Zimmerman co-authored two books on economics in the early 1940s.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and later the Marine Corps Reserves, retiring in 1957 as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 179.
Born in Millville, he moved to South China in 1972. He is survived by a son, Jeffrey of South China; a brother, Richard of New Holland, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at the South China Community Church. Burial will be in Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China. Arrangements are by Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor, Maine.
