Scott was born to Wiley and Julia Gantt in Titus, AL. He grew up in Alabama, Mississippi and New Jersey. He graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson, NJ in 1955. On February 20, 1960, he married Joy Ward. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He continued his education and earned his Master's in divinity from Zoe College. Scott would have received his Doctorate pending his thesis acceptance.
Scott's service to this community included running a private electronics business, working as Dixie County Emergency Services Coordinator, as Dixie County Property Appraiser's mapper and as the Town of Cross City's City Manager. His work for our county was not limited to the jobs he was paid for; he was a tireless volunteer and faithful servant who was always available. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Julia; his brothers, Fred and Benny and his sister, Carolyn Walker. He is survived by his wife, Joy Ward Gantt, his children, Kim (Bobby) Mann, Michael (Sherry) Gantt, and Candi (Paul) Gainey. Scott's grandchildren are Erin (Javier) Gonzalez, Heather Mann, Elaine Standridge, Sonja, Michael and Scott Linderman, and Bobby Mann; Kelsey, Mollie, Michael, and Kadee Gantt: and Macaele Gainey. His great-grandchildren are Ciera and Isabella Gonzalez, Johnathan Standridge; and Braydon Corbin. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Edgar Chaffin, several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Many of us in this community simply called him Papa Scott.
