Double Funeral Services Sunday For Whitmire Men
Cousins Lose Lives In European Theatre

Double funeral services with full military honors will be held Sunday afternoon in the Whitmire cemetery at 4:30 o'clock for Pvt. Robert P. McCall and Pvt. Robert Y. Evans, first cousins, who lost their lives in action in the European theater. The services will be conducted by Rev. C. L. Moody and Rev. Connelly Gamble, Jr. The military rites will be furnished by Company K, 218th Infantry, South Carolina National Guard. Private McCall, 31, entered service December, 1943, and received his training at Camp Croft, Spartansburg. He was sent overseas Aug. 1944, and was killed in France September, 1944. He is survived by his mother, Etta McCall of Whitmire; his wife, the former Miss Juanita Thompson and now Mrs. Judge Tankersley; a daughter, Nancy Carol McCall; his father, Laurence McCall; and a brother, Jack McCall of Woodruff. Private Evans, 25, was killed in action in Belgium January 9, 1945. He entered service in 1938 and was stationed at Fort Moultrie, after which he served two years in the Canal Zone. He was then sent to Fort McPherson and later transferred to paratroopers. He was sent overseas September, 1943, and saw service in England, France, Holland and Belgium. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ada Evans; his wife, the former Miss Jean Wingo; a son, Robert Daniel; and a step-daughter, Jean; two brothers, Lester and Billie Evans of Whitmore; six sisters, Mrs. Clyde Cables and Mrs. D. L. Chamberlain of Bakersville, Calif.; Mrs. Charles Tinsley of Newberry, Mrs. B. D. Elliot of Chester, Mrs. Jack O'Shields of Whitmire and Miss Marion Evans of Atlanta, Ga. The bodies of the two young soldiers will be taken to the home of Mrs. Ada Evans, mother of Private Evans, on the Whitmire-Clinton highway, after 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, where they will remain until the hour of the service.
