Edgar "Red" J. Horton, 85, of Edwardsville, IL died at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL on 1/29/2008.

A WWII Army and Korean Conflict veteran, he was an operating engineer for Local 520. He was also a riverboat pilot through the local for over 60 years. Red was a member of VFW 1099, Knights of Columbus #1143, American Legion Post 513 and American Legion of Edwardsville. He was also a member of St. Boniface Church in Edwardsville.

Red was the son of the late Norman G. and Ola Eddy (Jackson) Horton. He married Gertie Wirth Oct. 25, 1947 at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Kampsville, IL and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, one sister, one brother, two sisters-in-law, two granddaughters, two grandsons, a great-grandson, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Horton; grandson, John Ryan Henkhaus; three sisters, Irma Horton, Dora Harvey, and Sunny Wade; two brothers, Ernest Horton and his twin, Eddie Horton.

Visitation and funeral was held at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville with Deacon Dan Corbett officiating.

Memorials requested to the Humane Society.
