The dedication ceremony included a twenty-one gun salute with three riflemen firing seven shots each. The flag raising took place with a lone soldier playing 'Taps' from a distance away.
After the ceremony there were military helicopter and vehicle exhibits and tours for the public on the baseball practice fields at the northwest corner of Ben Lumpkin Road and East Pecan Street. Some of the military rotorcraft on display were the CH-47 Chinook, the UH-1 Iroquois (Huey), and the OH-6 Cayuse (Loach). A few of the military vehicles on display were the M151 MUTT, the M715 Kaiser Jeep, the M35 2½ ton cargo truck, and the M54 Truck (5 Ton 6×6 Troop & Cargo). Soldiers were present to answer questions and have their pictures taken with the visitors.
The original monument and flagpole was encompassed by a semi-circular hedgerow. The monument layout changed through the years to the present display on a concrete base with squared stone parapet.
