PENDLETON – Evelyn S. Hays, 92, Pendleton, died Jan. 1, 2003, at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 12, 1910, in Summitville, the daughter of James and Ninner (Johnson) Smith. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of the Frankton area. She was a member of the Frankton First United Methodist Church, Homemakers Club, 50-year member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two sons, Jim L. Hays of McCordsville and Luther M. Hays of Lebanon; brother J. Maxon Smith of Summitville; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther J. Hays, on April 24, 1984; a brother Achson Smith; and a sister, Marcile Wright. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home, Frankton, with the Rev. Michael Heath of First United Methodist Church of Frankton officiating. Burial will be in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery in Summitville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. OES memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions may be made to the Frankton United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
