Dr. Charles Robert Frank Greene, Fire Department surgeon, killed In the Fleishman fire Thursday, was born in New Bedford, Mass., January 5 1869 , the son of Lutheran J, and Adeliza M. Greene In early youth was spent at home and his first education was acquired in the public schools of New Bedford. Afterword he attended the South Weymouth Military Academy, lie returned to New Bedford and graduated at the New Bedford High School In 1887, He spent one year at the Lawrence Scientific School (Harvard) at Cambridge, Mass., and then went to New York City and entered in the fall of 1888 the New York Homeopathic Medical College and graduated there in 1891, He was assigned to Wards Island where he had a year's experience and In May 30th, I892, commenced practicing In Pleasantville , N. Y. He spent six months in Pleasantvllle. Then he removed to Mount Kisco, N. Y„ and practiced there a year and a half. He then, In 1894, returned to the Post Graduate School In New York and spent three months. He came to Peekskill August 4, 1894, lived here since and not only built up a good practice here but became one of our foremost citizens, taking an active part In the conduct of social, political, professional and fraternal affairs. He once belonged to Cortlandt Lodge No. 6, I. O.O. F. Peeksklll Lodge No. 711, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, and the Modern Woodmen of America. In the Elks he was a charter member, its first Esteemed Loyal Knight, and served as such from Dec. 18, 1901 to April 7, 1901. He was still a member at the time of his death.
In politics Dr. Greene was a Republican, although he had never held public office. His Firemanic career began almost with his advent in Peekskill. He became a member of Cortlandt Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, December 1, 1894, and a member of the Peekskill Fire Department January 11, 1891. He served his company so actively and so faithfully that he was elected Second Assistant foreman and Foreman in 1900 and 1901.

About three years ago the office of Fire Department Surgeon was created and Dr. Greene chosen to fill the position, which he still held. He made the office an important and successful one, filled it with ability and was always present at a fire to help or aid any firemen who were hurt or Injured. Dr. Greene was always an earnest and indefatigable worker in the social and fraternal sphere of firemanic life in Peekskill and also an active, able and capable worker at a fire. A man of executive ability, keen judgment and prompt action, he was a stern disciplinarian and a good fire fighter. Dr. Greene stood high in his profession. He was for many years a member of the staff of the Peekskill Hospital and Secretary of the Medical Board. He was Vice-President of the Westchester County Homeopathic Society and a member of the American institute of Homeopathy. He had a large practice and had his office and consulting rooms in his residence on Brown street, later 131 Washington street. Dr. Greene married April 30, 1895, Miss Augusta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O. Miller, of Mount Kisco. They had five children, all of whom survive him as follows; Alice, Maude, Helen, Robert and Thurston. He also leaves one brother. Alfred J. Greene, of Detroit, Michigan. The funeral services will be held at 4 p. m, Sunday from his late residence Washington street
