San Augustine, Texas. Jan. 6 -
Mrs. Nell Davis Payne, 46, member of the Houston city school system for the past 17 years, died early today at the family home here following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the family home here. The Rev. Harold Tillman, pastor of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the San Augustine cemetery under the direction of the Wyman Roberts funeral home.
Mrs. Payne was a daughter of the late Dr. Drew S. Davis, pioneer physician of his community. She was the widow of the late Rodney Payne whom she married in 1924. She had been in ill health for a number of years and was on leave of absence from her position with the Houston schools.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Effie Greer; three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Means, Beaumont, Texas; Mrs. C. B. Peavy, Lufkin, Texas; and Miss Muffett Davis, San Augustine; and three brothers, Drew Davis and Jack Greer Davis, both of San Augustine; and W. T. Davis, Fort Worth.

Rodney Payne, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Payne, of this city, and Miss Nell Davis, daughter of Mrs. D. S. Davis, formerly of this city, but who now resides in Austin, were married Monday at Livingston, the Rev. J. L. Davis officiating.
