Pearl Irene Bland, 87, of Oak Island, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Bayside community Hospital in Anahuac. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Pearl was born January 26, 1917 in Palmyra, ME to parents; Louis Johonnot and Bernice Pratt, a former resident of Arizona, and has resided in the Oak Island area for the past seven years. She was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper for Western Auto in Estancia, NM after several years of service, graduate of the Lake Worth High School in Ft. Worth, and enjoyed fishing, painting, and gardening. Mrs. Bland was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather: Ben Collins, father of her children: Leon Shewmake, husband: Charles Bland, son: Sid Shewmake, grandson: Brent Steele, brothers: Fred Collins and Eddie Collins, and sisters: Rosalie Elug and Dixie Hanna. She is survived by her daughter: Clauda Wilson-Dino and companion George of Oak Island, grandson: Eddie Steele of Oak Island, brothers: Ted Collins of Kirbyville and Jim Collins of AZ, friend and caregiver: Tina Hollis of Double Bayou, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
