Emma K. Langla of Rome passed quietly at her home June 14, 2010. She would have been 95 on Oct. 29th. Emma was the youngest of three daughters born to Cornelius and Henrietta Mengedoth, who immigrated to the U.S. from Holland in 1911, eventually settling in New Milford, NJ, where Emma was born. Her two sisters, Gertrude Winters and Agnes DeFlora predeceased her.

She spent her working years as a head teller for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City prior to marrying Arthur H. Langla in 1951 who predeceased Emma in 1985. In 1988 she met David Wanamaker who became her companion until his death in 2006.

Emma is survived by her only daughter, Kathie Bangs of Rome; a son-in-law, Thomas Bangs and her beloved grandson, Brian Bangs of Mahwah, NJ; nieces, Barbara Winters Webster of Rome and Carol DeFlora Fais of Rivervale, NJ.

Emma moved to Rome in 1998 from Ramsey, NJ. She loved her home and Harry and although not active in any organizations, became a well known resident around the Belgrade Lakes Village. She enjoyed talking with her friends at Day's General Store, Buzz and Vicky at the Post Office and the wonderful friendships formed at the Sunset Grill. Her easy going, friendly and fun nature left it's mark anywhere she went. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all whose path she crossed.

A graveside service will be held in the Brookside Cemetery, Wooster Road, Rome. (Gallant Funeral Home)
