☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆
Son of Diedrich Holthus and Dora Knippelmeier. Herman was one of 5 children. He was baptized on Feb 5, 1917, and confirmed on May 9, 1932, both at St. John's (Stone) Lutheran Church in rural Auburn, NE.
Herman was inducted into the US Army on Sep 5, 1941. He was stationed in Alaska part of the time and was Honorably Discharged on Oct 1, 1945 at Ft. Belvoir, VA. and resumed farming.
He was united in marriage to Berneda Grable on April 22, 1947, at St. James Lutheran Church. To this union 3 children were born.
He suffered a heart attach in March of 1997, being in ill health after that. He was admitted into the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn on May 7, 1997, and passed away on May 9th, having reached the age of 80 years, 4 months and 6 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, John and Harry Holthus.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Berneda of Auburn. 2 sons, Wylie Holthus and Patty of Johnso; Calvin Holthus and wife Diane of Roca, NE. daughter, Mrs. Steve (Loralee) Lunzmann of Johnson, 6 grandchildren, John, James, Stacy and Jeremy Holthus, Ryan and Kristi Lunzmann; brtother, Alber HOlthus of Elk Creek, NE. sister, Violet Whitten of Wathena,KS.
Services were held May 13 at St. John's Lutheran (Stone) Church. Interment was in the church cemetery with graveside military honors by Bender Reese Post #330 of Johnson, NE.
