NEWTON —

HARLINGEN, Texas — Joe Ray Bartmess, 78, died Friday (Sept. 24, 2010) in Harlingen.
He was born on July 12, 1932, to William and Florence Effie (Wilkins) Bartmess in Golden, Mo.
Joe worked in the Newton Parks Department for 20 years.
He is survived by wife, Maria (Ceballos) Bartmess of Lyford, Texas; son, David Bartmess and wife Pennie of Newton; daughters, Diana Inghram of Wichita and Pamela Jo Nellans and husband James of Newton; stepdaughter, Sarah Montano and husband Maurice of Newton; stepson, Robert Warkentin and wife Brooke of Greely, Colo.; grandchildren, Jay Inghram, Michael Bartmess, Austin Bartmess, Melissa Linscheid and Kevin Nellans; step-grandchildren, Audrey Garcia, Maurice R. Montano, Taléa Montano, Savon Warkentin and Ronin Warkentin; great-grandchildren, Tyler Inghram, Katlyn Kasper and Brooklyn Linscheid; and sisters, Ruth Woods and husband Kenny of Vinita, Okla., and Wilma Young and husband Bill of Vinita.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Gregory Inghram.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Petersen Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Buddy Aldridge officiating.
Committal service will follow at Restlawn Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial donations can be made to the Caring Hands Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
