After graduating from Wheaton College with a biology degree in 1964, Susan moved on to be a research assistant in the biology department at Princeton University and eventually earned her Ph.D from Rutgers University. She taught biology at Staten Island Community College, Princeton University and the College of Saint Elizabeth before working in administrative positions at Rutgers University, including administrator of the chemistry department. She also operated her own lab growing orchids.
Susan married William Lewis Bubeck, Sr. in Princeton, N.J. in 1968 and they had two children, Alice and Christopher. She loved to cook, knit and read as well vacation in Pemaquid Point, Maine and the islands of Sanibel and Captiva in Florida. Always the plant enthusiast in work and play, she took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She raised her family in Hightstown, N.J. where she regularly attended Alice's horse shows and Chris' soccer and hockey games.
