NEWTON — Joanna Irene Dawson, 79, of Newton, died Sept. 2, 2004, at Newton Medical Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Newton. The Rev. Gary Bell will preside. A later burial will be held at the Restlawn Garden of Memories in Newton.
Visitation will be Monday at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. The family will be present from 6 to 8.
The family requests memorials to the Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary in care of the funeral home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
Dawson was born July 21, 1925, in Wichita, to Leah Irene (Bahr) and Joseph LeRoy Keeling.
She married Robert Eugene Dawson Sr. on Sept. 5, 1948, in Salina at the Baptist Church.
Dawson held memberships with the First Christian Church and RSVP of Harvey County and assisted in the founding of the Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary, all of Newton. She was a hostess at South High School in Salina for 10 years and was also a homemaker. She did volunteer work, participated in activities with her sons, worked with high school students and was involved with many activities within the church. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Baptist Church in Clay Center and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Newton.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Dawson, Newton; two sons, Robert E. Dawson Jr., Winfield, and Ron Dawson, Salina; three brothers, Roland Keeling, Davenport, Iowa, Gailen Keeling, Salem, Ore., and Jay Roy Keeling, Wichita; and one granddaughter
