A native of Buncombe County, he was employed as a machine operator at Drexel #10 in Black Mountain. He was a member of Clayton Avenue Baptis Church where he was chairman of the deacon board, choir director and a former sunday school superintendent.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and a son of Maude Johnson Calloway and the late William Marion Calloway.
Surviving in addition to his Mother are his wife, Margaret Evelyn Cassida Calloway; a daughter, Cynthia Elaine Calloway of the home; two sisters, Mabel Robinson of Leicester, and Mae Taylor of High Point; and a brother, Hershel Everett Calloway of Asheville.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. T. A. Holder officiating and burial will be in the Vance Cemetery.
