Enlisted in Company H., 16th Tennessee Infantry, CSA, 5-18-1861; after severe wounds was transferred to a cavalry unit and surrendered 4-12-1865 near Washington, Georgia. He was a Methodist preacher and school teacher.

Enlisted 5/18/61. Paroled in Warren Co. 8/12/63. Discharged 2/12/62. Born in Warren Co. Discharged due to tuberculosis and chronic inflammation of the kidneys. Head lists him as being wounded while in the Cavalry. Pension #7867 filed 1/30/1906 accepted. Living in Gibson Co. Born in Fauquier Co. Va. on 8/10/1842. Stated he was shot under left eye and went out back of right ear. Stated he went back after that. States he surrendered at Washington Ga. on 4/12/1865 with the 11th Tenn. Regt. Cavalry Capt., Coffee's company. States he was in prison and took the Oath rather than "go to prison". Married with four children. He apparently was shot sometime before he rejoined the Army at Dalton Ga. on 12/24/63. Stated he then joined the 11th Texas Cavalry near Cave Springs Ga. States he was in N.C. and got separated from his command and got with President Davis to Washington Ga. Was with the 11th Tenn. Cav. at surrender.Maiden name Mary Elizabeth Terry. Married on 12/14/1875 in Gibson Co. He died 1/20/1920. Had six children.
