Evelyn Sue Harding Alford, 84, and a 50-year resident of Granite City, Ill., and most recently of Tinley Park, Ill., died May 25, 2006.

Born Feb. 2, 1922 in Hickman, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Leonard Tracy Harding and Mary Ezell Harding. She was a member of the Johnson Road Baptist Church in Granite City and was retired from the Granite City Army Depot and from the Granite City Schools Food Service System.

Survivors include one daughter, Gale Alford Shafer of Tinley Park; two grandchildren, Patricia Shafer Greiman of Plainfield, Ill., and Kenneth Shafer of Chicago, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Harding Norville of Hickman; one brother, Tracy Harding of Collinsville, Ill.; two nieces; June Edwards Colwell of Fayetteville, Ark., and Kathy Harding Cusumano of Maryville, Ill.; four nephews: Billy Charles Edwards of Germantown, Tenn., Jack Harding of El Paso, Texas, Kenneth Harding of Collinsville, Ill., and Joe Tracy Bondurant of Troy, Ill.; and her dearest friend, Dorothy Johnston of Granite City.

In addition to her parents, her husband, James Edward Alford; one sister, Glynes Harding Edwards; and one brother, Ezell Harding preceded in death.

Visitation and memorial services were held at the Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City on May 26. Interment was in the Hickman City Cemetery on May 27 with Rev. Henry Callison officiating.
