JAMESTOWN, NC — William Paul Brown, 66, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Hospice Home at High Point, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

A native of Rockville, NY, Mr. Brown was born August 20, 1944 a son of the late Paul Robert Brown and the late Veronica Katherine Downs Brown.

He had been a resident of this area for the past six years, coming here from northern Virginia and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

He was a graduate of Penn State University.

Following college, he taught for several years in Catholic schools, teaching seventh and eighth grade students and later taught security procedures.

A Marine Corps veteran with six years' service, working as a Special Radio Operator, he volunteered to spend a tour "In country" even though he was a "Sole Surviving Son" and would not have been required to be placed in harm's way.

At the time of his death he was a North Carolina Magistrate, with an office in Greensboro.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria Youchison Brown of the home; daughter, Susan Brown of Melbourne, Florida; son, Bill Brown of Jamestown and two grandchildren, Raley and Macy Brown.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 am, Monday, May 16, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by the Reverend Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S.

Burial was at a later date in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, KY. .
