Gary, 69, of St. Louis, passed away suddenly on Thursday, at Gratiot Medical Center.

Funeral services for Gary were held Monday, May 16th at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Ithaca with Fr. Jules Spleet officiating.

Gary was the son of Paul and Neva (Thayer) Trgina. He lived in St. Louis all his life, graduating from St. Louis High School in 1959. He worked for Bear Truss in their sales division for 25 years, retiring in 2008.

Gary was an avid musician, playing the accordian and trumpet. He played in his father's band, Sounds of Czechoslovakia, for several years and continued on playing with his partners, Phil Chovanec, Charlie Chapko Jr., Jan Matousek and Bob Shaw. They played at the Harvest Mass in Bannister, Breckenridge 4th of July celebration, Anniversaries and other special occasions. Gary was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca, Alma Elks Lodge, ZCBJ in Bannister and the CSA in St. Louis, where he was a part-time manager. Gary was also a member of the Michigan State Polka Music Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who he married on January 15, 1993 in Corunna. Also two daughters, Kim Trgina of Grand Rapids and Wendy (Jeff) Johnson of Grand Haven. Three step children, Jerry (Kati) Shafer of Carson City, Nevada, Marsha (Tim) Lundy of Bryant, Arkansas and Stephanie (Steve) Schmitke of Holt. Two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a brother, Richard (Mary) Trgina of Ithaca, a sister Norma (Frank) Hinderleider of Elwell and his mother-in-law, Thelma Prussner of Perry, Mi.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
