A native of Buncombe County, he had lived in California for several years before moving back in 1998. He was a son of the late Oscar Howard and Bertie Ellen Shook Pounders and was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Pounders Clubb and an infant son.
Surviving are his brother, Coy Pounders and wife Patsy of Asheville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Charlie Sams, Bobby Gibson and Walter Ponder officiating. Burial will be in the New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
