Just a good ol' boy. That's what anybody who ever met Roger Turner would tell you about him. He was a kind, quiet and unassuming fellow. What you see is what you get would be a good description of Roger. He was very down-to-earth, a fun-loving guy with a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed fast cars, hunting, fishing, hanging with friends, and a good, cold beer.

The son of Murle Andrew Turner and Leona Sue Dunlap. He was born in Bixby, Oklahoma, but he grew up in the country in Leonard in modest surroundings. He loved the country and was a country boy all his life. He never lived outside of Bixby, Leonard, Stone Bluff or Haskell, inside the south Tulsa, Wagoner and Muskogee tri-county area. It was that laid-back area and rural setting that suited his country-boy lifestyle. Roger was a small-town boy who held small-town values in life. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures, especially the great outdoors and everything it had to offer, most notably hunting and fishing. He had been working at Carmichael's farm market in Bixby for several years until he was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer.

Roger died at Hillcrest Medical Center on May 6, 2011, at 2am, after nearly a year-long battle with cancer. His family has been devastated by his passing. A memorial service was held for Roger at the Leonard Marker Funeral Home in Bixby on May 10 at 2:00pm. Music for the memorial service was provided courtesy of Carol Sue Willcutt.

Roger left behind his mother Leona Turner of Bixby, his loving friend and companion Shirley Giordano of Stone Bluff, brothers Tommy "Tuck" Turner of Leonard, Bobby Turner of Bixby, and David Turner of Broken Arrow, his sisters Marilyn Patton of Owasso, and Ethel Turner of Bixby. He also leaves behind his son Matt McCollum of Bixby, daughters Erin Naugle & Rebecca Turner of Liberty Mounds, and two step-sons Scott Puryear of Tulsa & Brian Puryear of Liberty Mounds, and four grandchildren, Makinzzie Naugle, Makail Naugle, Makara Naugle & Colt Maugle, Jr., all of Liberty Mounds.

Roger will be lovingly remembered, and deeply & sorely missed by all who knew him.
