He was born on May 13, 1924, in Centralia, Washington, to Harry and Hortonse (Achey) Allen. John enlisted in the Army in 1942, and served in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On April 14, 1946, he married Marion Nauman at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. John was employed at Northern States Power Company for over 30 years. He loved to travel and golf, and he belonged to the "Old Goats Club."
Survivors include his wife, Marion; their son, Michael (Carrie) of Red Wing, MN; their daughter, Cynthia (Gene) Bowe of Eau Claire; two grandchildren, Amanda and Alison Bowe; brothers, Joseph (Glenda) and David (Jo); best friends, Sam Anderson, William Conrad, Dennis Spicer, Rod Palmer and Charles Woodward; brothers-in-law, Marvin (Bette) Nauman and Richard (Karen) Nauman.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Allen; his parents; and his brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church, 207 University St., Elk Mound, with Pastor Michael Wollman officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire.
