As an early pioneer to the St. Croix River Valley Asa B. Green was a versatile man. Asa was a farmer, an auctioneer, a sheriff of the county, a Justice of the Peace and probate judge(1858), a riverboat owner and pilot of the "Equator" (which was wrecked in a severe storm in 1859), a Baptist Minister(1860), serving as a Chaplain at Stillwater Penitentiary. In 1861 Asa started Baptist churches in Eau Claire and Augusta WI. He then volunteered as Chaplain of the 30th WI Infantry during the Civil War(1862-1865).
