Michael H. Tyrer passed away June 24, 2009.

Michael was born in Yreka July 5, 1939 to Harold and Verna Bray Tyrer and lived in Dunsmuir until his father's untimely death, when Michael was just 5 months old. Verna and Michael moved to Yreka in 1944, where he attended Yreka Elementary and Yreka Union High School. He went on to study at Santa Rose Junior College and the University of Portland. In 1963 Michael purchased Janson's Stationery Store, renaming it Tyrer's Stationery. Tyrer's Stationery later became Tyrer's Hallmark, where many people began their Christmas Village collection and Yreka High School students began their working career.

Michael was a viable part of our community. He was a member of the Red Scarf Society, the Yreka Methodist Church, Yreka Rotary Club, Yreka Historical Preservation Committee and he served on the Yreka Chamber Board of Directors. Michael enjoyed traveling and visited many parts of the world. After his retirement in 2001, Michael continued to travel and enjoy life.

Michael is survived by his loving family, the Brays, extended family and treasured friends, Dennis Girard, Dom and Joan Favero, the Ed Harris family, and his faithful Schnauzer Jackson.

At Michael's request, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stanley Balfrey Memorial Scholarship Fund. Girner's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
