Stephen T. Abel, 43 years, of West Palm Beach, FL died on Sunday, December 30, 2001 following a courageous two year battle with cancer. Born in West Palm Beach, he was a graduate of Lake Worth High School, Class of 1976; graduated from Palm Beach Junior College; and attended Florida Atlantic University. Steve was employed as the Systems Operations Director for Lake Worth Utilities for over 20 years, until his retirement in 2001; and was a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Lake Worth in 2000. He served as a Director of the Palm Beach County Youth Football League, and was a coach of youth football and girls softball at Lake Lytal for over 20 years. Steve was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lake Worth, FL, where he also served as an usher.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Jean Abel of West Palm Beach, FL; parents, Robert and Emily Abel of Lake Clarke Shores; sister, Nancy Freebold (Greg) of Lake Clarke Shores; brother, David Abel (Luoann) of West Palm Beach; sister, Patti Gringeri (Tony) of Lake Clarke Shores; and twelve nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2002 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Quattlebaum-Holleman-Burse Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL with a Scripture Service to be held at 8:00 P.M. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 425 North M Street, Lake Worth, FL, with the interment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL....
