Yreka, Calif. —

Charles "Chuck" J. Holcomb, a 50-year resident of Yreka and Siskiyou County, passed away on March 17, 2011 after complications from surgery. He was 86 years old.
Born in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Chuck transferred from Southern California to Mount Shasta as a California Highway Patrolman in the late 1950s. Remaining with the CHP, he purchased a cattle ranch in Montague, later opening Jolie Dame, a popular women's apparel store in Yreka, with his wife Jean.
After retirement from the Highway Patrol, he held several small businesses, ultimately as a partner in B & H Excavating of Yreka, now owned solely by his son Richard Holcomb.
Chuck served honorably with the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific during WW II, was an active member of the Masonic Lodge during a period of his life as well as a volunteer production specialist for several annual meetings of the California Farm Bureau Federation as well as local events.
He is survived by his son Richard Holcomb of Yreka; his daughter Valerie Lane McCool of Eugene, Ore.; and two grandchildren Jay and Chelsea Lane of Reno, Nev.
No memorial service will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
