Dana, Jr. was born to Dana, Sr. and Marion K. Beattie Mansur in Rutland, VT. His parents lived in the Shrewsbury village of Cuttingsville, where his father was a laborer (later becoming a building contractor in Southern California).

Dana was married three times. Here is the career biography he left for us in his Rootsweb file (2004-09-30):

"Was in Korean War as an enlisted (SSGT) flight engineer. Served 12 months at K-16 (Seoul, Korea) 1952-1953. Was involved as air crew member in "Operation Castle", the hydrogen bomb tests in the Marshall Islands 1953-1954. Entered Active USAF Reserves in 1955. Commissioned in 1959. Retired as a Major. Graduated from Orange Coast College. Was a design engineer for Aerojet-General Corp. Later became Technical Facility Manager for Centriline division of Raymond International."

Thereafter, he spent much of his life devoted to the genealogy of "ROBERT MANSUR (or MANSER, MANSIR, MANSOR)" as he used to show in his Rootsweb files. Starting with the House of Mansur (1926), he expanded with local records searches (few were online) and contacted Mansurs across the country, by phone, mail and email, for additional information and assistance. He also traveled to England in search of Robert's ancestry.

Dana was a good collaborator who readily shared his information. (Bio by Darrell Mansur, one of the many cousins with whom he worked).
