"CHESAPEAKE - Charles Davis Smith, 70, ascended to be with his mother surrounded by angels after a long valiant battle with cancer. A devoted son, father and proud grandfather, Charlie departed peacefully from Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center April 15, 2011. Born in Norfolk, he graduated from the original Great Bridge High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Penn State. He spent his working years with Firestone, Brody-Kantor and finally retired in 2006 from GET Solutions. He was a member of Oaklette United Methodist Church. Charlie was predeceased by his mother, Martha Davis Smith. He is survived by his father, Kline W. Smith; his wife and longtime friend, Florence Smith; his daughter, Sharyn Lynch; his son, Bryan Smith; his brothers, William and Ray Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his grandsons, Nathan, Jacob and Joseph. Visitation with the family will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Monday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. The service will follow Tuesday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the same location. Graveside service will follow at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery on Laskin Road. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society."
