U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Washington College Virginia, in 1815, engaged in agricultural pursuits while studying law, was admitted to the bar and then commenced to practice law in Woodstock, Virginia. He was prosecuting attorney of Shenandoah County and member of the Virginia State Senate, (1821-26). In 1827, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth, Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses, serving until 1833. After his term, he resumed his agricultural interest until his death at age 65.
