Funeral services will be 2 p.m., today, April 19, at Doerun United Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Bass and the Rev. Kenneth Banker officiating. Interment will follow in Doerun Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Frankie McCarty, Aubrey McCarty, Harold Eidson, Timothy Bell, Thomas Hurst and Tom Mark.
Born Oct. 29, 1917, in Doerun she was the daughter of the late Ambros Powell Mathis and Lillie Rauch Mathis. She was a substitute teacher and a school volunteer. She was a member of Doerun United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, was the Church Hostess and was a member of the United Methodist Church Women's Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Thomas "J.T." Hortman; a sister, Julia Mathis; two brothers, A.P. Mathis Jr. and Branson Mathis; and a son-in-law, Gene Anderson.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Anderson of Funston, Charlotte Hurst and husband Clyde and Jane McCarty and husband Joe, all of Doerun; five grandchildren, Janna Eidson and husband Harold, Nancy Mark and husband Tom, Frankie McCarty and wife Caroline, Thomas Hurst and wife Melissa and Charla Brinson; seven great-grandchildren, Adam Eidson and wife Erica, Lynsey Bell and husband Timothy, Rebekah Hines McCarty, Aubrey McCarty, Elaine Hurst, Caylor Mark and Cameron Brinson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brayden Bell and Kylan Bell.
