Mr. Shifflett was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of the late Ivan Carroll "Dick" Shifflett Sr. and Dorothy Marie Merica Shifflett.
Ivan served in the U.S. Army for over 13 years, and was a member of the VFW Post 632 in Harrisonburg, where he served as Chaplain and drove the D.A.V. van to the veterans hospitals for a number of years. He was employed at J.B. Hunt before becoming disabled. He enjoyed family trips to Virginia Beach and Tennessee, and hunting and fishing.
On Oct. 5, 1968, he married Linda Faye (Kite) Shifflett, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Melissa Breeden, and companion, Steve, of Elkton; a son, Brandon W. Shifflett of Grottoes; a brother, Gary Wayne Shifflett of Bluemont; three sisters, Paula Faye Purdham, Brenda Kay Tappy and Beverly Jo Emerick, all of Shenandoah; five grandchildren, Katelyn Breeden, Dakota Breeden, William Comer, Phillip (Austin) Comer and McKenzie Shifflett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Dale Shifflett.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Pastor Mike Reynolds and the Rev. Gerald Meeks will conduct the service. Burial will follow at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the Shifflett home at any time.
