World War II∼REXFORD GRAY WATTS was killed instantly in a gun accident on AUG. 11,1945.
He was the second oldest son of Lillie Gray Smith Watts and Ernest Watts Sr.
For a year or so he was able to get a deferment from military service so that he could run the family farm. Older brother E.J. was already serving in the Pacific theater. Rexford was finally drafted in the final year of WWII and he had served a tour of duty in Italy. He was actually on a ship on his way home when he was killed. According to his diary, the fighting was over in Italy. He saw a good bit of the country, but no combat.
