Paul traveled all over the world as his father was serving with the Navy. After graduating from high school Paul attended Louisburg Junior College for 2 years.
One day he quit college and enlisted in the Marines 15 June 1966, at the Raleigh Recruiting Office in North Carolina. His parents were living in Florida, when Paul gave his home of record as Iron City, Georgia, where his grandparents were living.
Paul arrived in Vietnam 15 August 1967 and was assigned to 2nd Platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The 2nd Platoon was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 51st ARVN Infantry Command Post, 4 kilometers south southwest of the Marble Mountain Airfield. During the morning hours, at approximately 0230H hostile forces launched a coordinated attack on the compound with mortars and automatic weapons fire. Five Marines died during the assault. Paul died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the head and body from hostile rocket fire.
Survived by his parents, Irvin Ray and Gwendolyn Evans and two sisters; Sandra and Angela all of 6830 Holiday Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
