Charles "Chuck" Peterson, born April 27, 1934, died April 10th at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Boise. He was 76 years old.

Chuck was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and never abandoned his fervor for the Packers. He attended the University of Wisconsin and St. Norbert's College.

He served proudly in the Navy as a medical corpsman near the end of the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, he managed retail-clothing stores in Nebraska and Montana and moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1973 to manage the Chamber of Commerce. His "retirement" from the Chamber was his "re-entry" into sales, as he joined Coeur d'Alene Honda and later Robideaux Motors.

He lived in Coeur d'Alene until moving to Boise in 2008 to be near family. He enjoyed golf and fishing, served on the board of his church, laughed, played pool, told jokes and made us happy to be around him. In Boise, Chuck lived at Heatherwood Retirement Apartments before his recent illness.

In the end, a bad heart and weakened lungs caught up with him. Even while suffering from dementia in his last month of life, he managed to keep his sense of humor. When a physician asked him to identify the President, he smiled and said, "you mean old slippery tongue?" He never really trusted politicians of either party. His last days were spent at the Idaho State Veteran's Home, and he was happy to be there with other men and women who had served their country.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Ruby Peterson, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and by his sister, Donna Liska, of West LaFayette, Indiana.

His three children survive: Elizabeth Barnes of Lake Stevens, WA., Douglas Peterson of Redmond, WA., and Charles Peterson of Boise. He leaves seven grandchildren: Burke Barnes, Lindsay Barnes, Cory Barnes, Ryan Peterson, Emily Michelle, Courtney Peterson and Jordan Peterson; and three great-grandchildren.

Chuck's family would like to thank the staff and physicians at Heatherwood, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Boise Behavioral Health Hospital, and the Idaho State Veteran's Home for their care.

Chuck will be interred with family members in West LaFayette, Indiana.

His last wish was that we would celebrate his life by living ours well.
