Eleanor Burnoski, 87, formerly of Benton Harbor and Stevensville, Mich., passed away Thursday, Apr. 6, 2006, at Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home, Kendallville.

Born Mar. 18, 1919, in Dowagiac, Mich., she was the daughter of Gustav and Rose (Rach) Polfus.

She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1937. On Dec. 18, 1941, she married Ernest Burnoski in Benton Harbor.

She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Benton Harbor and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stevensville. She and Ernest moved to Fort Wayne to be near their daughter and joined Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She enjoyed flower gardening and especially loved spending time with her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Phillip) Bornemann of Fort Wayne; her son, Michael (Faye) Burnoski of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Louis and Cena Burnoski, Stephanie (Darren) Hess, Joshua Bornemann; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jonathan and Samantha Hess; her brother, Harold "Red" (Jean) Polfus of St. Joseph, Mich.; her sister, Evelyn LaVanway of Stevensville; and five sisters-in-law, Virginia and Arlene Polfus, both of Texas, Marjorie and Edna Polfus, both of St. Joseph, and Lorraine Polfus of Benton Harbor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest, on Jul. 23, 1999; and by five brothers, William, Bert, Arnold, Robert and Leonard Polfus.

A service celebrating Life Eternal is 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, Mich., with the Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma, Mich. Memorials may be made to Allen County Council on Aging or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, both of Fort Wayne.
