A resident of Haywood County for 54 years, he was the son of the late George I. Black, Sr. and Mildred Clark Black. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Anglin Black and one sister, Gene Burnheart. George served in the US Navy receiving the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troup 333. He retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. George was also a member of the Canton McDonald's Club.
