Jimmie Odell Jones was born to Aubrey and Easter Lorene (Bigford) Jones on December 1, 1936, near Cookietown, in Cotton County and departed this life on April 4, 2011, at Oklahoma City, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at the First Baptist Church in Walters. Rev. Stan Baker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation will be between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at the Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

He grew up in southwest Oklahoma. Jimmie married to Freda LaVern (Isom) on Dec. 12, 1960, in Salina, Kan. To this union, nine children were born. For many years he worked as a pipe welder wherever the job took him but for the past 25 years he has made his home in Velma.

He joined the Baptist Church as a young boy. He served his country in the US Army Corp. of Engineers from Jan. 12, 1956 to Dec. 23, 1957.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Jones; a grandson, Cody Roper; three brothers, Howard Wayne Jones, Kenneth Ray Jones and Bobby Darrell Jones; a sister, Katherine Sledge; and a son-in-law, Van Bartlett.

Survivors include his wife, Freda, of the home; eight daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Alan York of Burleson, Texas, Theresa and Troy Castor of Velma, Leasa and Brent Anderson of Plains, Kansas, Angel and Scott Roper of Whitesboro, Texas, Tina and Blaine Plummer of Woodward, Oklahoma, Julie and Bruce Price of Ringling, Oklahoma, Michelle and Shawn Farrar of Denton, Texas, Crystal and Bill Smith of Duncan, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Dawn Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Jessy Waldroup of Woodward, Oklahoma; 24 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
