Tysula (Tula) Smith, 75 passed away March 3, 2010. She was born November 19, 1934 in Whiteville, NC, the daughter of John Theodore and Bertha McVickers. She worked at Carolina Café for 25 years, Boddie-Noell Enterprises for 19 years and Dippin-Dots Ice Cream.

Her parents; 3 brothers, Billy, Bobby and Jimmy Theodore; grandson, Nicholas Smith; and sister-in-law, Laura Van Scoik preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William Elbert (Al) Smith of Rocky Mount; daughter, Debbie Daughtridge and husband David of Rocky Mount; 3 sons, Richard (Ricky) Smith and wife Gina of Hampstead NC, David Smith and wife Kristine of Leland NC, and Robert Smith and friend Melanie Joyner of Wilmington NC; 3 grandsons, Billy Daughtridge and wife Katrina of Rocky Mount, Brad Smith of Washington DC and Spencer Gutowsky of Leland NC; and 2 granddaughters, Ashley Cox and husband Jerry of Rocky Mount and Priscilla Braswell of Wilmington NC. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ryan West, Gracie Daughtridge, Brittany Cox and Braxton Cox of Rocky Mount; sister, Mary Perry of Shallotte NC; brother, Jackie Theodore of Ft. Lauderdale FL; sisters-in-law, Catherine Arnold and Betty Brown and husband Cecil of Seagrove NC; brother-in-law, Bob Van Scoik; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends and relatives from 7-8:30pm Saturday, March 06, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home and other times at 1594 S. Old Carriage Road. A service to remember Tula was held at 2:00pm Sunday, March 07, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jackie Raper of the First Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
