BOLIVAR – Fred C. Shaner of 121 First St., died in the Olean General hospital Monday (June 16, 1969) following a brief illness.
A retired oil producer and public servant, Mr. Shaner was born March 15, 1898, in the Town of Bolivar, a son of Albert and Mae Rounds Shaner. On June 14, 1922, he married the former Susie Lewis, who survives.
He was a drilling contractor and oil producer in Bolivar for the past 50 years.
Mr. Shaner was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bolivar; a member of its board of trustees; a member of the Macedonia Lodge F&AM; Buffalo Consistory; Buffalo Shrine; a charter member of the Bolivar Country Club; past director of the N.Y. State Oil Producers Association; director of the Citizens National Bank of Bolivar; served 18 years as trustee on the Village Board of Bolivar; was past president of the former Clair Mfg. Corp. of Olean; director of the York Producing Ltd. Of Wallaceburg, Ont.; past vice president of the Larkin Mfg. Corp. of Wellsville; a life member of the Bolivar Fire Department; a veteran of World War I; a member of the Bolivar American Legion; and a former member of the finance committee, Seneca Council of Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are a son, Alyn Shaner of Bolivar; four grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Shaner of Bolivar; and a sister, Mrs. Archie (Ruby) Piper of Bradford, Pa.
Friends may call at the family residence from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Bolivar Thursday (June 19, 1969) at 2 p.m. The Rev. William Horn, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schaffner Funeral Home.
