Esther Maxine Bailey Abernathy, 80, of Carolina Acres Road, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at the residence of her son.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gene Davis. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mrs. Abernathy was born March 23, 1927, in Mercer County, W.Va., to John and Lessie Burrows Bailey. She was a homemaker and attended Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Tyro. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, William Luther Abernathy Sr.; a son, Dalton George; and a daughter, Jean Burrows.
Surviving are two sons, Bill Abernathy Jr. and his wife, Maria, of Lexington, and Harry J. George and his wife, Trisha, of Salisbury; a daughter, Pamela Hunt of the home; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of a son, Bill Abernathy Jr., 1698 Tyro School Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
