Clarence was a traveling photographer in his youth. He and his wife traveled through-out the south Alabama and southwest to Galveston and Corpus Christi Texas. He returned to Tennessee about 1925 to take care of his dieing father John Alexander McWhirter. After 1926 he moved to Crossville where he lived out his life. He is the son of John Alexander McWhirter and Eliza Ann Little. He is the husband of Mary Bell Ogle. They had one son Leon McWhirter he was adopted, his original name was Herbert Hunter. He was raised in Crossville Tennessee from Aug. 1936 to Apr. 1949. Went to Nashville in 1949 to the present. The civil war Gun Powder Horn carried by John Alexander McWhirter was in his possession as of 1990.
