Dores "Dorie" E. Niswander, 86, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Beverly Health Care Center. Born March 22, 1918, in Buckley, IL, he was the son of Benjamin and Dorcas Ellen (Shoemaker) Niswander. He was the grandson of John W. Niswander (born 19 January 1844 in Rockingham County, VA; died 14 March 1894) and married on March 6, 1866 to Lydia Sprinkle (born 19 January 1846).

He worked as a truck driver and dock foreman for TMX Motor Freight. An army veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines and was a member of the American Legion and a past commander of the VFW. He was also a member of the Handy Ridge Word of Faith Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Miller) Niswander; three sons, Gilbert Niswander and wife, Nancy; William "Bill" Niswander and wife Jeni and John Belden and wife Terri, all of Bloomington; one daughter, Glenda Stogsdill and husband, Robert "Buck" Stogsdill of Nashville; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Glenn, Wilbur and Ralph Niswander; and three sisters, Leona Duncan, Louise Orman and Hazel Koehler.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel, with the Rev. Maurice Wright officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.
