Rev. Chester Cannon, 75, of Madisonville, KY, passed away at 12:05 PM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at Brighton Cornerstone in Madisonville.
He was born June 13, 1933, in Leitchfield, KY to the late Elbert M. Cannon and Leva Clark Cannon. He was also preceded in death by four sisters; Edna Anderson, Anna B. Meredith, Opal Hodge and Shirley Lawson; two brothers, Robert Charles Cannon and Thomas Cannon.
Rev. Cannon graduated in 1957 from Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. He retired from Nebo School after 36 years of being an educator and basketball coach. Rev. Cannon was the minister of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Madisonville and celebrated 50 years of continuous work for church camp. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening but most of all he loved working with children.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Cannon of Madisonville; one son, Mark (Doreen) Cannon of Madisonville; one grandson, Nick Cannon of Madisonville; one sister, Ruby Frazier of Ft. Worth, TX; two brothers, William H. Cannon and Coleman Cannon both of Louisville, KY and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Stone and Mr. Joe Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
Friends may call on Friday, February 6, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and after 8:00 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Madisonville. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
