Elva B. Buchanan, age 94, of Laurel Cove Road in Bakersville, the Bear Creek community, died Monday, April 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 13, 1919 in Mitchell County and was the daughter of the late Sam L. and Delia B. Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Buchanan who passed away in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her infant son; Richard Buchanan and her son; Kenneth Buchanan; her son-in-law; Ed Pendley and her sister; Sammie Harrald.

Elva was a lifelong member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and loved her church family. Elva loved her garden and enjoyed working with flowers and loved animals. She adopted many people as family members and had a large extended family. She was known to many as either ‘Maw' or ‘Granny'.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Elva Buchanan at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
