Residing in Patrick County, Virginia at the time of enlistment. Enlisted on September 5, 1861 at Patrick County, Virginia in the 58th Virginia Infantry, Company H at the age of 23. Promoted to Fourth Corporal on December 31, 1862. Promoted to Corporal on August 31, 1863. Wounded on May 3, 1863 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. POW on May 30, 1864 at Bethesda Church, Virginia. Confined on June 4, 1864 to Point Lookout, Maryland. Confined on June 9, 1864 to Elmira. Died of pneumonia as a POW.
