Mardelle G. Buckendahl was born Jan. 19, 1925, in rural Ashland, the daughter of Wilbur and Mary (Schneider) Sutton. She graduated from Ashland High School on May 21, 1942.
She married Leon Buckendahl on April 18, 1948, at Cedar Hill Methodist Church near Greenwood. Mardelle and Leon farmed near Wee Town for four years and then moved to a farm near McLean. In 1970, they moved to an acreage near Osmond.
Mardelle and Leon were married 40 years before Leon died in 1989. Mardelle moved into Osmond and resided there until 2011. She then moved to Norfolk and resided at The Meadows for nine months before moving to Heritage of Bel-Air, where she resided the past six years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Larry Juul and spouse Karen Margensey of Fredericksburg, Va., Marcia and spouse Michael Steckelberg of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Mary and spouse Norm Jensen of Winside, Valerie and spouse Dan Morfeld of Norfolk, Shari Steiner of Norfolk, Scott and spouse Tiffany Buckendahl of LaPorte, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Leon; a son, Russel Buckendahl; and a great-granddaughter, Mia Morfeld.
The organist will be Lori Koehler, and the soloist will be Kent Schuettler, singing “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns will be “Lift High The Cross,” “I Come To The Garden Alone” and “Joy To The World.”
Casket bearers will be Mardelle’s grandsons: Jon Steckelberg, David Steckelberg, Matt Jensen, Andrew Jensen, Nick Morfeld, Marcus Morfeld, Eric Peterson, Walker Steiner, Isaiah Buckendahl, and Zach Buckendahl.
